Layered oxides are intergrowth structures of transition metal oxides that are interleaved with metal cations.  Soft chemistry offers a low temperature route to interconvert between different structures and break them apart into two-dimensional metal oxide nanosheets that can be assembled onto different surfaces.  My research investigates the thermodynamics of this chemistry by isothermal titration calorimetry.  Additionally, soft chemistry approaches are being used to tune inversion symmetry breaking in layered oxides for ferroic properties.
