Penn State's Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology offers a Ph.D. graduate program in Biochemistry, Microbiology and Molecular Biology (BMMB). The major goal of the program is to provide a challenging and rewarding academic environment in which students can develop research and teaching skills to the fullest. Training is flexible and is tailored to the talents and research interests of each student.
Approximately two-thirds of our past graduates have gone on to postdoctoral positions at major institutions and at biotech and pharmaceutical companies in North America and Europe. Of the remainder, about half have taken teaching positions at colleges and universities and half have taken permanent research or administrative positions. The postdoctoral students subsequently obtained positions in teaching and academic or industrial positions.
For those interested in a professional degree, a Master of Biotechnology is offered by the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department, in collaboration with the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences.
