In addition to a commitment to research excellence, the department is dedicated to education. Three undergraduate majors (Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Microbiology, and Biotechnology) provide outstanding opportunities for students to explore the life sciences.

At the graduate level, the Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Molecular Biology (BMMB) doctoral program offers an exceptional research and learning environment for the training of future scientists.

A Professional Science Master's (PSM) degree, the  Master of Biotechnology is also available in collaboration with the Biotechnology Institute of the Huck Institutes for students interested in broad career opportunities outside of the academia.

Forensic Science Masters

The Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department has an affiliation with the Forensic Science Program!

The Forensic Science Program at Penn State is designed to provide high quality instruction to undergraduate and graduate students.  This program is sponsored by the Eberly College of Science, with several faculty Dr. Mitchell M. Holland, Director, Forensic Science Program, Dr. Reena Roy, Dr. Robert Shaler and Dr. Frank Dorman all being granted appointments by the Biochemistry & Molecular Biology Department.

The program, houses the state of the art criminalistics laboratories and facilities affiliated with the program and offer several of the courses for the undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as, professional development workshops.  To learn more about the Forensic Science Program visit their website.
