Annual Graduate Student Activity Report (GSAR)

The Graduate Student Activity Report (GSAR) is a college-wide system designed to improve graduate student advising and mentoring. All BMMB students and faculty are required to use this system to provide an annual student evaluation as well as document the required annual committee meeting.

This system allows students, advisers and committee members to readily assess the current and past progress of students, as the website will be available at all times.

GSARs must be completed and approved for all BMMB graduate students by August of each academic year. The report is open from September - August for each academic year. There are different workflows/procedures (detailed below) depending on the completed milestones of the students.

Final deadlines for submission for the 2016-2017 academic year

 

  • July 1: Deadline for student input of initial information.
  • July 22: Deadline for committee member/adviser comments following the annual committee meeting.
  • August 1: Deadline for student acknowledgment.
  • August 14: Deadline for approval.

In addition to the information that each student and advisor will enter, a considerable amount of information has already been entered for each student. We encourage you to familiarize yourself with the "Student Profile" section, as it serves as a repository of information for each student (e.g. courses taken, dates of candidacy and comprehensive exams, etc.).

 

Workflow for First and Second Year Students

  • September 1, 2016-July 1, 2017: Student completes "Student Summary"
  • By July 22, 2017: Dissertation Adviser completes "Review"
  • By August 1, 2017: Student meets with dissertation adviser, discusses review, and then completes the "Acknowledgement".
  • By August 14, 2017: BMMB Directors of Graduate Education complete "Approval".

 

Workflow for Third Year Students

  • September 1, 2016-July 1, 2017: Student completes "Student Summary"
  • By July 22, 2017: Committee members add comments, and then dissertation adviser completes "Review". *There will be no committee meeting this year since the comprehensive exam serves as the first meeting.*
  • By August 1, 2017: Student meets with dissertation adviser, discusses review, and then completes the "Acknowledgement".
  • By August 14, 2017: BMMB Directors of Graduate Education complete "Approval".

 

Workflow for Fourth Year and Beyond

Post-comprehensive students are required to fill out the GSAR prior to their annual committee meeting and allow time following the committee meeting for comments by committee members and the adviser. Students may begin filling out the GSAR and holding their committee meetings as early as September 1st, 2016.

  • September 1, 2016-July 1, 2017: Student completes "Student Summary" and holds annual committee meeting.
  • By July 22, 2017: After the annual committee meeting, committee members add comments, and the dissertation adviser completes "Review".
  • By August 1, 2017: Student meets with dissertation adviser, discusses review, and then completes the "Acknowledgement".
  • By August 14, 2017: BMMB Directors of Graduate Education complete "Approval".
