Breast Cancer Homerun Derby

The BMMB graduate program brings together students from all over the United States and the world. Our students form a tight-knit group that work together both in research and life. A few examples of yearly events include shopping trips to nearby towns, camping trips, mountain biking, the rockstar party, woman's christmas movie night, the Big Lebowski film festival, Spikes baseball games and breast cancer home-run derby, PSU football games and tailgates, just to name a few. In addition the BMB department hosts a a holiday party every December.

The State College area offers a beautiful and affordable place to live. Housing is available on campus in several graduate student dormitories. Some of our students opt to live off-campus as well, and many options are available for this from renting a house to an apartment in a complex with amenities such as a health club, shuttle service to campus, and a swimming pool.

The Graduate Student Association also maintains a web site with useful information about nearly every aspect of graduate student life including an excellent guide on moving to State College.

Penn State University and the State College area provide abundant opportunities for students to explore interests beyond the laboratory. The wide array of student organizations on campus brings together students with similar interests from the Chinese Friendship Association to the Fly Fishing club. There are several venues on campus and in the community to fulfill the artistic side of life. Each July State College hosts the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts that attracts over 100,000 visitors to art sales and exhibitions, music, dance and theatrical performances. For those with an interest in athletics, Penn State offers ample opportunities for spectators and participants alike.
