Erin Vrana Receives the Erickson Summer Discovery Grant

Summer Discovery Grant Recipient

Erin Vrana, recipient of the Erickson Summer Discover Grant19 June 2015 – Erin Vrana, a Schreyer Honors College student in the Eberly College of Science has been awarded the Rodney A. Erickson Discovery Grant. The Erickson Discovery Grant supports undergraduate student engagement in original research and creative work under the direct supervision of a faculty member.

Erin is a junior pursuing her degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with the Molecular & Cell Biology option and will be conducting her research under the direction of BMB faculty mentor Dr. Scott Lindner. She is working on a gene that is important to the transmission of the malaria parasite from mosquitoes to the mouse host, and seeks to determine how its mRNA and protein are regulated to ensure efficient infection of the mouse.
