Graduates Serve as Processional Banner Carrier for Commencement Ceremony

28 April 2015 — On May 9th, 2015 graduates from each department in the Eberly College of Science will be recognized individually during the commencement ceremony.  A single outstanding student is nominated by each department to carry the processional banner during the graduation ceremony. The BMB department nominates three students as it awards degrees in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Microbiology and Biotechnology majors. The following three students have been chosen to represent their majors:

Kelly McGillKelly McGill will carry the standard for the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology major and be escorted by Dr. Meredith Defelice.   Kelly plans to pursue her Ph.D. in Immunology at Stanford University where she hopes to research autoimmune disorders and gain a better understanding how the immune system learns tolerance.



Sin Yen TanSin Yen Tan will have the honor of carrying the banner for the Biotechnology major and will be escorted by Dr. Loida Escote-Carlson. After graduation, Sin Yen will be participating in a 6-month biotechnology co-op.  After that, she will pursue a career in a pharmaceutical industry to work on drug development or laboratory technology. 

Stephanie Crilly Will Carry the Microbiology BannerStephanie Crilly has the honor of carrying the standard for the Microbiology major. She has chosen to be escorted by Dr. Graham Thomas. After graduation, Stephanie will be pursuing a Ph.D. in biological sciences at Carnegie Mellon.
