Life Outside of Studies
20 March 2014
Ryan Henrici and Taylor Kaminski take a break from their studies to volunteer on the Hospitality Committee for the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, commonly referred to as THON. THON is a two-day Dance Marathon that takes place every February at the University Park campus of The Pennsylvania State University with the purpose of raising money to combat pediatric cancer research and to provide support for patients and their families. More than 15,000 passionate and dedicated students from around the commonwealth volunteer for the event each year. BMB major Henrici said, “I volunteer for THON because it is so much more than the annual weekend of celebration. I THON because THON brings together thousands upon thousands of Penn State students from all different backgrounds and campuses for one awesome cause: providing emotional and financial support to everyone from Hershey involved in the Four Diamonds Fund, to all the family members of kids battling cancer, and most importantly, to the kids. More than all the money that is raised every year, seeing a little warrior smile and laugh in the face of such an evil disease is the most rewarding thing”. Because of students like Henrici and Kaminski and their crucial work, dedication and passion are what makes the THON organization continue to make strides to find a cure. THON 2014 officially raised $13,343,517.33. Henrici is a junior majoring in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Kaminski is a sophomore majoring in Supply Chain and Information Systems.
